School Newsletter- May 2018

  • Children in Second Class planted vegetable and herb seeds with the help of SNA Pauline Regan. The children then took responsibility for looking after their potted seeds and watched with delight as they grew.

  • The boys reached the County Quarter-Final of the Division 4 Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic Football Competition.

  • Well done to both Caoimhe Duffy and Aoibhínn Duffy on their Fleadh success at County level and best of luck as they go on to compete at the Connaught Fleadh.

  • Congratulations to First Communicants-Alex Egan, Emma Shiel, Michael Duffy, Eoin Cafferkey-Boylan and Conor Duffy. The children received First Eucharist with pupils from Tavrane and Kilkelly Schools in Kilmovee Church and celebrated afterwards at a party in the Community Centre.

  • As part of the Bealtaine celebrations organised by the Heritage Committee at Cois Tine, pupils from Third Class and upwards were invited to draw pictures around the theme of, “Be Our Guest”. Prize winners included Gemma Rush, Micaela Roddy, Aoibhín Boyle, Amy Hunt, Sinead Regan, Aoibhínn Duffy, Caoimhe Duffy and Katelynn Cogan. After the prize-giving, pupils had the opportunity of playing a few tunes with senior members of Kilmovee Comhaltas.

  • Liam Frain represented the school at the Cumann na mBunscol display games in MacHale Park on the day of the Connacht Quarter Final between Mayo and Galway.

  • All pupils visited Shannon Adventure Centre for the annual school tour. Children participated in activities such as rock- climbing, archery and obstacle courses while there were also water-based activities for the older boys and girls.

  • As part of an initiative run by SuperValu in Ballaghaderreen, each child was provided with a pot, compost and sunflower seeds. With Pauline’s help each child planted their seeds and after a few weeks took their pots home. Children are invited to submit photos of their sunflowers, in full bloom to SuperValu for the ‘Grow a Sunflower’ Competition!

  • In glorious summer sunshine the Hurling Team was delighted to contest the Division Two (9-a-side) County Final against Ballyvary N.S. on the hallowed turf of MacHale Park and emerged as convincing winners, with a scoreline of 3-3 to 1-2. The boys were delighted to be presented with County medals and the Division Two Shield. Thank you to their trainer Mike Raleigh for his dedication to the team and for giving so freely of his time. The School Community unite in their congratulations to the pupils on this outstanding achievement.
