Parents, pupils, past-pupils, teaching colleagues, family and friends gathered in the Kilmovee Community Centre to pay tribute to teacher and principal, Mrs Denise Deery on the occasion of her retirement. Fr. Vincent Sherlock paid tribute to Mrs Deery at a mass in the parish church prior to the function. Presentations were made by Catherine Duffy on behalf of the Board of Management and by Carmel Roddy on behalf of the Parent’s Association. Mrs Deery spoke with affection, gratitude and appreciation of her thirty-one years spent in Kilmovee N.S. Current principal, Mrs Mary Warde, welcomed Denise’s husband Liam, her daughter Sandra, sons Seán and Liam, grandchildren Ella and Amber and the extended Deery family. She extended a particular welcome to former parish priest, Fr. Farrell Cawley ,who served with Mrs Deery as chairperson of the Board of Management for fourteen years. Food and refreshments were served by Sheila Hunt and musical entertainment came courtesy of Carmel McLoughlin. Friends and past pupils including Anne-Marie Rooney, Marian Egan, Emily Rooney, Sarah Rooney and Leah Dunney played some favourite tunes while Emily and Leah gave beautiful renditions of ‘The Old Sunday Dinner’ and ‘Ellis Island’. There was much reminiscing and well wishing and a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable night was had by all. The whole school community wished Mrs Deery a happy and healthy retirement.
